Porthcawl Buckaneer  Carnival.

JOIN US!
The Buckaneer Carnival
Saturday 21st July 2018.
Starts 1.30pm.

The Buckaneer Carnival, Porthcawl Tourism and the Porthcawl Museum are planning a special Carnival this year, Saturday 21stJuly 2018. The aim is to reflect not only Wales’s ‘Year of the Sea,’ but, also, to commemorate the ‘Centenary of Women and the Vote. ‘

The museum’s role, for the carnival, is to organise a display befitting of 100 years of Women and The Vote. The organisers have already agreed to allow ‘The Women’ to lead the carnival. By June 23rd, one of the museum cells will have been converted into a Suffragette Exhibition to support and promote this venture,

Carnival plan so far: -

  • Women will march in front of the Carnival, ahead of our own float, wearing sashes - ‘Women and the Vote 1918-2018.’

Women will be dressed in 1918 period costume.
Suffragettes will be given a PURPLE SASH to wear.
Suffragists will be given a RED SASH to wear.

(Please inform me (Ceri Joseph) which group you wish to represent; so that the correct number of sashes can be ordered.)

Both Suffragettes and Suffragists will be carrying their own homemade banners.

Policemen in period costume will be in attendance.

Following, will be women representing a cross section of what women have achieved since 1918. Some representing occupations, the military, politics, youth groups, services etc
These women will be given a GREEN sash to wear ‘Women and the Vote 1918-2018.’

THE FLOAT
  • Will show the granting of the vote. Parliament back drop, railings and a massive ballot box.
  • MP’s, AM’s and Local Councillors, plus more ladies dressed in period costume will compliment this scene.
  • Plus Mr. Roy Noble as Prime Minister Mr. David Lloyd George.

N.B - MP’s, AM’s and Local Councillors will not be expected to dress in period costume; but are most welcome to do so if they wish.
