The Porthcawl Small Cannon
The Small Cannon was taken to Cardiff University Archaeology Department. The Porthcawl Museum kept the big cannon, and are at present conserving, preserving and restoring it. The process for both cannons will take a few years.
However, below please enjoy looking at how Cardiff University Students and Lecturers have already made a huge difference to our cannon.
A Big Thank You to Them All.

A group of members visited the Conservation Department at Cardiff University on Monday 15th Feb 2016. Ruth and Marcin showed us all how they have been conserving the cannon. They like us are thrilled at the outcome.
Opposite you can see the barrel which is made of cast iron; and the attachment for the deck, which is made from wrought iron. This helps in some small way to date the cannon. Henry Cort's 'puddling process' was introduced into the Iron Industry in 1784. It was this process that refined the cast iron into wrought iron. |
We all look forward to our next visit!
